Sacred Vrat Katha (Full Narrative)
In Vidarbha, a pious Brahmin couple accumulated subtle impurities through inadvertent transgression during sacred observances. In their next birth, they were reborn as an ox and a dog on their own son's homestead.
On an ancestral Shraddha day, seeing a snake drop poison into the cooked kheer, the dog leaped and tainted the pot to save the family. Driven by anger, the daughter-in-law struck the dog. Overhearing the suffering of the two animals that night, the son realized their true identity and consulted holy sages. Following their counsel, he observed the Rishi Panchami vrata with Samo rice and dedicated the merits to his parents, delivering them into divine liberation.
