The Divine Prophecy & Kamsa’s Prison
यदा यदा हि धर्मस्य ग्लानिर्भवति भारत।
अभ्युत्थानमधर्मस्य तदात्मानं सृजाम्यहम्॥
"Whenever righteousness wanes and unrighteousness rises, I manifest Myself."
In the Dvapara Yuga, Mathura was held in terror under the tyrannical rule of King Kamsa. When Kamsa was affectionately driving the chariot to escort his newly wed sister Princess Devaki and her noble husband Vasudeva, a sudden divine lightning flashed across the sky.
A thunderous celestial voice echoed from the heavens: "O foolish Kamsa! The very eighth child born of this sister you hold so dear shall be your ultimate doom, ending your reign of tyranny!"
Stricken with terror and fury, Kamsa instantly cast Devaki and Vasudeva into the darkest stone dungeon of Mathura, shackled in heavy iron chains under round-the-clock guards. Yet no earthly tyrant could thwart the supreme will of the cosmos.
"Lord Vishnu manifested with conch, discus, mace, and lotus, radiating celestial blue grace."
It was the dark, stormy midnight of Ashtami under the exalted alignment of Rohini Nakshatra. Lashing rain fell in sheets outside as lightning ripped across the skies of Mathura. At the stroke of midnight, a miracle unfolded inside the dungeon.
The bleak prison was suddenly flooded with a brilliant, soothing celestial golden illumination! The Supreme Lord Vishnu manifested in His full cosmic majesty, holding the Conch, Discus, Mace, and Lotus, adorned with the resplendent Kaustubha jewel.
Devaki and Vasudeva wept tears of overwhelmed devotion and offered sacred prayers. Blessing His parents, the Lord softly transformed into an enchanting, dark-blue infant with lotus-shaped eyes, peacock feather radiance, and an irresistible cosmic smile. The Savior had arrived!
"Yamuna parted at the touch of the Lord’s lotus feet, as Sheshanaga sheltered Him with his hoods."
The divine infant whispered the plan into Vasudeva’s heart: "Dear father, carry Me across the river to Gokul into the home of Nanda Baba, and bring back the infant girl born to Yashoda." In that instant, celestial miracles began unfolding.
The heavy iron shackles fell harmlessly from Vasudeva’s limbs. Massive iron-studded dungeon gates swung wide open on their own, and every single armed sentry sank into a spellbound mystic slumber. Vasudeva nestled the divine baby into a wicker basket and placed it upon his head.
Reaching the banks, Vasudeva beheld River Yamuna roaring in turbulent spate. As torrential rain lashed down, the great five-headed serpent King Sheshanaga rose majestically from the deep waters, spreading his glowing golden hoods like an impenetrable royal umbrella over baby Krishna. As surging waves leaped up to touch the baby’s lotus feet, Yamuna bowed in reverent surrender, parting her waters to grant safe passage.

Grand Celebration in Gokul: Jai Kanhaiya Lal Ki!
नन्दस्य गेहे उत्सवो महान् बभूव।
नन्द गेहे आनन्द भयो, जय कन्हैया लाल की॥
Vasudeva reached the peaceful village of Gokul undetected. Entering Nanda Baba’s home where everyone rested in tranquil sleep, he gently laid baby Krishna beside Mother Yashoda, taking her newborn infant girl, Yogamaya, back to the Mathura prison. The heavy dungeon doors closed behind him once more.
As dawn broke over the horizon and the joyous news spread that Mother Yashoda had been blessed with an unimaginably radiant baby boy, all of Gokul erupted in ecstatic celebration! Gopis and cowherds rushed to Nanda Baba’s courtyard with clay pots of fresh churned butter, dancing to rhythms of dhols and bells.
Celestial demigods showered blossoms from above, and the holy skies resonated with the immortal chant: "Nand Gher Anand Bheyo, Jai Kanhaiya Lal Ki! Hathi Ghoda Palkhi, Jai Kanhaiya Lal Ki!" Bowls of sweet butter and mishri were joyfully shared, welcoming the Supreme Lord to Earth!
