Sacred Vrat Katha (Full Narrative)
Princess Savitri of Madra chose Prince Satyavan, son of exiled blind King Dyumatsena, as her husband despite Sage Narada's warning that Satyavan was destined to live only for one more year.
On the fateful day in the deep forest under a majestic Banyan tree, Satyavan laid his head on Savitri's lap and breathed his last. Lord Yamaraj, the God of Justice and Death, arrived and took Satyavan's soul. Savitri relentlessly followed Yamaraj across arduous realms, extolling eternal righteousness (Dharma), fidelity, and spiritual wisdom.
Deeply impressed, Yamaraj granted her three boons excluding Satyavan's life. Savitri wisely asked for her father-in-law's eyesight and kingdom, one hundred brothers for her father, and one hundred noble sons for herself through Satyavan. Realizing her brilliant virtue and devotion, Yamaraj smiled, fulfilled the boons, and restored Satyavan to vibrant life under the holy Banyan tree.
