Sacred Vrat Katha (Full Narrative)
Sage Kaundinya's devout wife Sheela observed Anant Chaturdashi and tied the protective 14-knot thread, bringing divine abundance to their hermitage. Blinded by sudden arrogance, the sage mistook the thread for sorcery and burned it in wrath. Instantly, their cows, grains, and serenity vanished, plunging them into utter destitution.
Realizing his grave sin, Kaundinya roamed the forests crying out for Lord Ananta. Compassionate Lord Vishnu revealed His cosmic form, instructing him to observe the Ananta vow faithfully for 14 continuous years. Upon observing the fast, all fortunes returned tenfold. Lord Krishna likewise instructed Yudhishthira during their forest exile to observe this fast to win back the kingdom.
