📖 Introduction & Sacred Glory of Chaitra Navratri (Vasantik Navratri)
Chaitra Navratri, revered in the classical scriptures as Vasantik Navratri, is one of the most auspicious and spiritually transformative nine-day festivals in Sanatana Dharma. Celebrated during the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of the moon) of the holy month of Chaitra, it heralds the advent of the Hindu New Year (Vikram Samvat 2084) and marks the sacred period when cosmic feminine energy (Adishakti Maa Durga) is invoked through rigorous fasting, meditation, and devotional worship.
According to the Devi Bhagavata Purana and Markandeya Purana, worshipping the nine manifestations of Mother Durga (Navadurga) during the transition of seasons purifies the physical body, sharpens the intellect, and shields the family against negative forces. Furthermore, Chaitra Navratri culminates on the ninth day with the divine incarnation day of Maryada Purushottam Lord Rama—Shri Rama Navami.
In the year 2027, Chaitra Navratri will commence on Wednesday, April 7, 2027 with the sacred ritual of Ghatasthapana (Kalash Sthapana) and conclude on Thursday, April 15, 2027 with the grand celebration of Rama Navami and Navratri Parana.

📖 Step-by-Step Ghatasthapana & Kalash Pujan Vidhi
Establishing the sacred Kalash on Day 1 is an ancient Vedic rite that invites the cosmic presence of the Divine Mother into your dwelling:
- Vedi Preparation (Sowing Barley): Take a clean, shallow, wide earthen or brass bowl. Fill it with purified soil and compost. Spread sacred seven grains or clean barley seeds (Jau) evenly across the layer and sprinkle pure water lightly. This represents Khetri, symbolizing agricultural abundance and vitality.
- Kalash Sanctification: Take a copper, brass, or silver Kalash. Fill it with pure water mixed with a few drops of holy Ganga water. Place a betel nut (Supari), an unbroken coin, a pinch of turmeric, Akshat, and a clove inside.
- Panchapallava Placement: Arrange five or seven fresh mango leaves or Ashoka leaves along the rim of the Kalash.
- Coconut Consecration: Take an unpeeled, fresh coconut with its husk intact (Shrifal). Wrap it in a clean red cloth or silk chunri, tied securely with sacred red mauli thread. Place the coconut firmly on the mouth of the Kalash facing East.
- Invocation & Akhand Jyot: Place the consecrated Kalash in the center of the barley bowl. Install the idol or image of Maa Durga nearby. Light an unbroken lamp (Akhand Diya) filled with pure desi cow ghee or sesame oil to burn continuously throughout the nine days.
📖 Durga Maha Ashtami & Kanya Pujan (Wednesday, 14 April 2027)
The eighth day of Chaitra Navratri—Maha Ashtami—is one of the most spiritually charged days of the festival. On this day, devotees worship Maa Mahagauri, the epitome of compassion, serenity, and luminous beauty.
A central sacrament of Maha Ashtami is Kanya Pujan (Kanjak):
- Nine young prepubescent girls (aged 2 to 10 years), representing the nine forms of Goddess Durga, along with one young boy representing Bhairava (Batuk Bhairava), are respectfully invited into the home.
- The householder washes their holy feet with clean water and milk, applies a fragrant kumkum and akshat tilak on their foreheads, and ties a sacred mauli thread on their wrists.
- The girls are served freshly prepared, satvik festive offerings consisting of Sooji Ka Halwa (semolina pudding cooked in pure ghee), crispy Puris, and boiled Kala Chana (spiced black chickpeas).
- Each young girl is presented with red chunris, bangles, stationery, and monetary dakshina. Devotees touch their feet to seek their divine blessings for family health and prosperity.

- Navami Havan: A sacred Vedic fire ritual (Havan) is performed with dried mango wood, pure ghee, camphor, cloves, black sesame seeds, and havan samagri, reciting the Durga Saptashati mantras to conclude the nine-day spiritual sadhana.
